Wreck diving is popular because it offers a different dive experience compared to your everyday dive adventures. Each wreck gives you the chance to spot something unique or to discover something new. However, wreck diving requires a particular set of skills.
Not only you get a chance to explore a bit of history underwater, but you will also be amazed at the amount of marine life that has become accustomed to these foreign objects.
Although the thought of wreck diving sounds exciting if wrecks aren’t approached in the correct way you could find yourself in some dangerous situations.
If you are at least 15 years old and you are in the possession of a PADI Adventure Dive certificate or higher, you can subscribe to the PADI Wreck Diver Specialty Course.
This course will cover the following topics:
Exploration of a wreck to identify entry and exit points.
How to avoid some of the common hazards during wreck diving.
Navigation along the wreck using a compass and natural navigation.
Mapping and survey of a wreck.
Maintaining good buoyancy control.
Special equipment considerations for wreck diving.
Learn and practice the use of penetration lines and reels on the outside of the wreck.
How to plan and organize wreck dives.
Techniques to avoid kicking up silt and/or disturbing the wreck’s environment and its inhabitants.
You will need to complete 2 open water wreck dives under the supervision of your instructor on 1 day.
