The PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty Course will teach you effective ways to find objects underwater and bring them to the surface. Small, large or just awkward items, there is always a method to bring them up. Search and recovery can be very challenging and a whole lot of fun too.
Who can enroll in the PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty Course? Well anyone who is a PADI (Junior) Advanced Open Water Divers and at least 12 years old. PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers in the possession of a PADI Underwater Navigator certificate also qualify.
You will learn the following skills:
Search and recovery dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and how to deal with potential problems.
How to locate large and small objects using search patterns.
Swimming search patterns using your compass and natural navigation.
Location large and small objects using various search patterns.
How to use and other recovery methods.
Limited visibility search techniques.
Planning a search operation based on facts gathered about a lost object prior to the dive.
The PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty Course contains an orientation lesson and 4 open water dives over 2 days.
In addition to your basic diving equipment, you will need an underwater compass and an underwater slate. Your instructor may suggest other gear that can help you with your searches, such as a dive light, marker buoys, lines, and reels.
It is not only the specific search patterns you learn but also the overall approach and discipline that really make a difference and help with a myriad of day-to-day situations.
During your dives, your instructor will help you learn an approach to find and recovering an object underwater within certain limits.
