Shadows in the Deep Blue

Your voyage begins just as the first golden rays of dawn hit the Desert Rose Resort marina in Hurghada. As you step aboard the premium Red Sea Life vessel, the aroma of fresh coffee mixes with the crisp, salty sea breeze. The heavy rumble of engines signals the start of your journey across the shipping lanes of the historic Strait of Gubal—a place where maritime legends sleep silently in the deep blue.

By mid-morning, you plunge into the waters of Sha’ab Abu Nuhass, a notorious ship graveyard. On the Giannis D, you'll hover weightlessly inside its massive engine room, tilted at a surreal 45-degree angle. On the historic steamship Carnatic, light filters beautifully through the decaying iron ribs like sunrays inside a cathedral, illuminating massive schools of glassfish.

As evening drops, the ship moors over the legendary SS Thistlegorm. Armed with your dive torch, a highly atmospheric night dive awaits on the upper decks. In the dark, giant lionfish use your light to hunt, and massive moray eels slither out of historical crevices. The next day, you'll penetrate deep into the holds to see WWII trucks, BSA motorcycles, and giant steam locomotives resting peacefully on the seabed.

🚢 Day 1: Ship Graveyards & Night Diving

Marina Boarding

Arrive at the marina, board the Red Sea Life liveaboard, and meet your expert instructors and guides.

Briefing & Cabin Assignments

Safety briefing and vessel orientation. Get settled into your cozy, air-conditioned cabin.

07:00 AM – 09:30 AM

Crossing the Strait of Gubal

Sail out toward Abu Nuhass. A light breakfast is served on the sundeck as the mainland fades away.

09:30 AM – 11:00 AM

Dive 1: The Giannis D (Max Depth: 28m)

Explore the famously intact, tilted stern and navigate through the beautifully lit engine room corridors.

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Chef's Buffet Lunch

Relax during your surface interval with a delicious, hot international buffet lunch served on board.

12:45 PM – 02:15 PM

Dive 2: The Carnatic (Max Depth: 24m)

Dive one of the oldest wrecks in the area (1869). Swim through its open structural ribs decorated with colorful soft corals.

02:30 PM – 05:30 PM

Transit to the Thistlegorm

Relax, sunbathe, and enjoy afternoon snacks as the boat sails and moors over the legendary WWII wreck.

06:00 PM – 07:30 PM

Dive 3: SS Thistlegorm – Night / Dusk Dive (Max Depth: 22m)

Watch the wreck wake up to nocturnal life under your torch light. See giant eels and active scorpionfish.

⚠️ Weather Contingency: The Strait of Gubal can have unpredictable wind and currents. If weather or safety parameters prevent a safe night dive, this will adapt into a late afternoon/dusk dive on the wreck, or a sheltered drift dive nearby.

A hearty dinner is served, followed by stargazing on deck and a peaceful sleep in your cabin.

Dive 4: SS Thistlegorm Hold Penetration (Max Depth: 30m)

Enter the historical cargo holds to view rows of WWII trucks, motorcycles, aircraft wings, and armaments.

Enjoy a freshly prepared hot breakfast buffet while completing your surface interval.

Dive 5: SS Thistlegorm Exterior & Locomotives (Max Depth: 32m)

Swim out to the giant steam locomotives blown onto the sand, and inspect the massive stern propeller.

Farewell Buffet Lunch

Eat a hearty lunch as the captain starts the cruise back to the Hurghada Marina.
