Main Info
What is drift diving exactly? Well, drift diving is broadly defined as diving in a current, wherein you are transported from one point to another by the water movement rather than by your own power.
Many scuba divers know that diving is often compared to being in outer space or flying. Well, nothing comes close to that feeling than gliding along above a reef on a drift dive.
A drift dive in a gentle to medium-strong current can be one of the most relaxing dives you can do. Gliding along and watching the reef go by with little to no effort.
The PADI Drift Diver Specialty Course will get you prepared to plan and execute your own drift dives with confidence.
You must be a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver and at least 12 years old to adhere to the PADI Drift Diver Specialty Course.
This course will teach you the following:
- Planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems, and hazards of drift diving.
- An introduction to drift diving equipment such as floats, lines, reels, and boats.
- Buoyancy control, navigation, and communication for drift diving.
- Site selection and overview of aquatic currents, causes, and effects.
- Techniques for staying close to a buddy or together as a group.
- The advantages and disadvantages of drift diving.
- Various entry and exit techniques when drift diving.
- Problem-solving and safety procedures: buddy separation, exhaustion, stress or entanglement.
During this course, you will go on 2 open water dives, which may be conducted in 1 day.
The PADI Drift Diver Specialty Course introduces you to the coolest method of transformation you will ever experience. Just descend to the bottom and let nature do the rest.
You will not only learn the techniques used to take full advantage of Mother Nature herself but also how to do it safely and maximizing the fun side.
And above all, currents are responsible for some of the richest, liveliest reefs and the most abundant large pelagic sightings.
