Kimon M Wreck
The Kimon M Wreck is one of the most atmospheric wreck dives in the Red Sea and a powerful choice for divers visiting Hurghada who want a more adventurous style of Scuba Diving. Resting at Abu Nuhas and often associated with a cargo of lentils or beans, this wreck is famous for its dramatic position on its starboard side, its deeper profile, and the impressive stern and propeller that remain among the most memorable features of the site. At Red Sea Life Diving Center, we organise guided trips to the Kimon M with professional planning, clear safety briefings, and easy access from the main hotel and resort areas.

Discover One of the Most Atmospheric Wreck Dives Near Hurghada
The Kimon M Wreck is one of the best-known Abu Nuhas wreck dives and a site that appeals strongly to divers who enjoy wreck history combined with a more dramatic underwater atmosphere. For guests visiting Hurghada, this is not a wreck that feels neat or polished. It feels raw, mysterious, and powerful. The ship struck Sha’ab Abu Nuhas in December 1978 while carrying a cargo that is often described as lentils or beans, and over time the wreck settled onto its starboard side, creating the distinct profile that divers know today.
Large parts of the wreck have deteriorated with time, and this is part of what gives the site its character. The bow area became a debris field spread across the reef, while the remaining body of the ship still offers strong visual impact underwater. Divers often remember the stern section most clearly, especially the large propeller and rudder, which remain very impressive and highly photogenic. Depth ranges are commonly described from roughly 4 or 5 metres down to around 32 metres, with the stern lying deepest.
Many guests staying at Desert Rose Hotel and nearby resort areas choose the Kimon M as part of a broader diving holiday in Hurghada. It fits especially well into a programme that can also include Dolphin House, Elphinstone Reef, Salem Express, and a memorable Night Dive. Together, these experiences create a rich Red Sea itinerary with reefs, drift dives, famous wrecks, offshore adventure, and after-dark exploration.
What Makes the Kimon M Wreck So Special
Starboard-Side Wreck Profile
The wreck lies largely on its starboard side, which gives the dive a dramatic shape and a very different perspective from more upright wrecks.
Famous Stern and Propeller
The stern section remains one of the most memorable parts of the site, with the propeller and rudder creating a powerful final impression.
Abu Nuhas Atmosphere
As one of the legendary Abu Nuhas wrecks, Kimon M offers the strong sense of history and adventure that wreck divers search for in the Red Sea.
A Wreck Dive Full of Depth, Shape, and Atmosphere
One of the reasons the Kimon M Wreck leaves such a strong impression is that it feels more rugged and mysterious than some of the other wrecks nearby. Parts of the wreck are broken and unstable, which gives the site a more dramatic atmosphere and makes the remaining intact areas feel even more powerful. The stern, in particular, stands out as one of the strongest visual features among all the Abu Nuhas wrecks.
Divers also appreciate Kimon M because it offers a slightly deeper and more serious recreational wreck profile than some of the neighbouring sites. Sources commonly place it among the deeper Abu Nuhas wrecks, and several warn that penetration is not recommended due to structural deterioration. That makes the exterior exploration, especially along the port side toward the stern and propeller, the highlight for many divers.

Combine the Kimon M Wreck with Other Famous Hurghada Experiences
One of the biggest advantages of diving in Hurghada is the wide variety of underwater experiences available during one holiday. The Kimon M Wreck works perfectly in a broader itinerary because it adds a deeper and more atmospheric Abu Nuhas wreck to a programme that may also include reef and drift diving. Guests often combine it with Dolphin House for a more relaxed and marine-life-focused day, or with Elphinstone Reef when they also want a more advanced offshore challenge.
Others may also include Salem Express to experience another famous wreck with a very different story and feeling, while a later Night Dive brings a completely different perspective on Red Sea marine life. When these trips are combined well, the overall holiday becomes much richer. You enjoy coral reefs, dolphin-focused excursions, legendary wrecks, offshore adventure, and diving after dark, all from one base in Hurghada.
With Red Sea Life Diving Center, we can help organise this type of programme in a smooth and practical way. Whether you want a balanced itinerary or a more adventurous diving holiday, we tailor the experience to your certification level, your interests, and your holiday dates.
